A Beach Day with the Cousins

Every so often (about once a year) when nice weather is expected at the coast we skip church and head to the beach for a family day.  This past Sunday we happened to do just that and enjoyed a gorgeous day at the beach with 82 degree weather!
The Booth family was able to join us, too.  Allison & Logan played in a little creek once we found a spot protected from the wind.  Allison wouldn't come out even though she was freezing.

Lauren was the perfect age to sit and play in the sand....

And EAT the sand, of course!

Heidi was NOT thrilled with the first beach we visited.  We finally left when we decided it was too windy and she screamed the entire way back to the car.  Where she crashed.  Hard.  Apparently sleeping is her defense mechanism.  Anyhow, once we settled down in a more protected area she had a great time.

I would like to comment that I am used to needing to keep everyone warm enough at the beach so I had not packed any warm weather clothing for Heidi.  Just lots and lots of cold weather layers.  Needless to say she was way too hot.  Poor kid survived thanks to her father finally stripping her down to her onesie (I had been too paranoid to do it since I was afraid of her getting a sun burn).

We also stopped by to check on the Sea Lions in Newport.  Allison loved watching them sun bathe.  This guy here was the king of the dock.  He was huge.  And he had an awesome Mohawk.  And any sea lion that dared to climb on the dock behind him was promptly driven off.
